A bridge is a permanent tooth replacement that is cemented in the mouth. A bridge helps to maintain the shape of your face and alleviate stress on your bite, and restores the beauty of your smile.
Bridges or Implants: What’s the difference?
The difference between a bridge and an implant is that a bridge connects the two teeth next to the missing tooth, hence the name bridge, whereas an implant only replaces the missing tooth/teeth without any effect on other teeth. Dr. Deacy recommends a bridge over an implant for patients who already need full coverage crowns on the teeth next to the missing tooth. Bridges are also a better option for people without enough jawbone in which to place the implant.
Bridges at Blue Springs Dental
Our goal is to make your bridge experience as seamless as possible. This includes constant contact between our office and the lab to ensure that your bridge is done to exacting standards and looks completely natural.
Your bridge procedure at Blue Springs Dental involves two visits. During your first appointment, Dr. Deacy will prepare the adjoining teeth for crowns, take impressions, and place a temporary bridge. About two weeks later, you will return for the final placement of the lab-fabricated, beautiful new bridge.
There are multiple different types of bridge material, but zirconia is the strongest and most visually pleasing. A zirconia bridge will match your natural teeth in shape, size, and color. Just by looking, you would never know that there is a bridge at all!
The care of a dental bridge is similar to that for your normal teeth, but will require a special type of flossing. Because the teeth are connected, floss does not fit in between the teeth. A Waterpik is highly suggested to flush out the area under the bridge, but a floss threader can also be used to clean under the bridge with regular floss. A bridge is brushed just as any other teeth with emphasis on the gum line area.
